Acupuncture involves inserting needles in points in pathways or meridians. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe that any disruption in the flow of energy (Qi) through these meridians can cause disease. By inserting needles in these certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of energy and therefore improving health.
Dry needling is used only for muscular pain. The needles are inserted in areas of pain called trigger points.
